Ah, Barcelona the cosmopolitan capital of Spain’s Catalonia region know for it’s tapas, art and architecture!
In no particular order here are 20 great things to do and see in Barcelona, Spain!
#1 Camp Nou
Is the world most famous football (or for us Americans) soccer stadium. If you’re lucky you can purchase tickets online (here) during the season and watch an actual game. Soccer fan or not, I’m sure you’ll enjoy the game. If you’re not so lucky (such as myself) and you chose to visit Barcelona when there are no games scheduled, you can still buy tickets for an interesting tour of the stadium.
#2 Sagrada la Familia
large unfinished Catholic Church designed by Antoni Gaudí. No matter where your interests lie, you must see this amazing building if you visit Barcelona. For my art lovers, be sure to book a ticket online in advance to go inside. The lines can get pretty massive. For the others, I highly recommend just viewing the spectacular building from the outside. I actually felt no need to go inside. I was recommended by many to just save my money unless I deeply into such a thing. For a better view, head across the street to the part so you can get a full length shot of the place.
The world of Guadi! He has many works that cane be found throughout Barcelona that I recommend such as :
#3 Casa Milà
Take a stroll past the last private residence designed by Gaudí. Also a world Heritage site by UNESCOA
#4 Casa Batlló
Another Guadí masterpiece. A remodel of a previous building redesigned by him in 1904 also known as the house of bones it has a skeleton like look to it’s design. Although I didn’t go inside, I heard it’s worth a peak. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. This building is interesting day and night. Also, it’s located very close to Casa Mila
#5 Park Güell
Located off of Carrer d’Olot lies yet another Gaudí masterpiece. This is a public park land spot garden decorated with colorful ceramic and natural elements. Simply just colorful and beautiful. Part of the park is free (east side) but if you wish to explore more you have to buy a ticket. You should reserve online because I believe the number of tickets are limited per half hour or so. Of course I went the free route and explored myself.
#6 Golthic Quarter
Or Barri gòtic, This is an absolute must. The Gothic Quarter is basically just an area. Within this area there are many narrow street with shops, restaurants and vendors. The busy avenue La rambles can also be found here as well as many historical places to visit. What makes this so amazing is this area is entirety enveloped in a medieval feel. The beautiful buildings make you feel as if you’ve stepped through time.
#7 La’Boceria
Not as impressive as I had imagined but still worth a visit. This outdoor covered food market would impress any food who’s into fresh fruits cheese and meat. I’m more of an “Asian food market” kinda gal to be honest. I originally wanted to check this place out because I heard they served bulls balls and I love trying strange food when I travel. Sadly the ball were raw (lol) and we had no place to cook them in our Airbnb.
#8 Barceloneta Beach
Since I visited in November and had such a massive list of things to do this was the obvious first thing to go. The weather was comfortable but not nice enough for the beach. However I highly recommend stopping by and renting a scooter to enjoy the coast!
#9 Saint Monitjüics Castle
THE NUMBER ONE THING I wanted to see! A beautiful old castle with a stunning view and garden. You should take a cable car and enjoy the view at the top of the hill overlooking the city. Also, for only 5€ you can go inside. You can book and ticket in advance.
#10 Rent Scooter
A fun, non controlling way to truly get around the city and see everything! My sister and I both have motorcycle licenses (in America) so riding a little scooter is no trouble however, be mindful this isn’t as easy as it looks and could be very dangerous. You can rent a variety of scooters and motors bikes from (Here) you can reserve the bike online but be mindful many place require a large deposit that will be placed on your card.
#11 Ice Bar
Winter or summer, this is a cool experience. Get it ? Cool. No? Okay, anyways for about 20$ you can experience the eskimo life in Barcelona. I highly recommend booking a ticket in advance (here) because this place actually sells out easily.
#12 Go to the Club
A super fun idea for enjoying the night life. We went to Jamboree, however there are many cool hip hop clubs like; Catwalk, opium, and Razzmatazz. be sure to check the schedule online. It’s also a good idea to get on a guest list before hand. We used this site to get on the guest list (here)
#13 Tapas, wine & Cava!
Probably my favorite thing to do in Barcelona. Wow, the wine selection was amazing and the best part was the price. I got a whole bottle of some amazing wine for only 3$! It tasted like a 40$ bottle. Cava, was very new to me. Its like a sparkling white wine which was very enjoyable. As for the Tapas I highly recommend a bomba, which is a fired potato ball thingy (descriptive I know). There as lot’s of tapas at every restaurant so don’t feel pressured to look in advance.
#15 Plaça Reial Square
Barcelona is filled with beautiful squares but this one is great for it’s location and restaurant. If your hungry head on over to this area for some paella.
#16 Plaça de sant Felipe Neri
After Montjuic Castel this place was number 1 on my list. If you’re into history or just a beautiful photo spot, this place is a must!. Located not far from the Barcelona Cathedral near Gothic Quarter lies this historical square. As beautiful as it is it carries a very dark sad history with it.
#16.5 Barcelona Cathedral
#17 Magic Fountain Show
This beautifully lite fountain display is located at the Montjuic Castel at night. If you didn’t get a chance to go here in the day time I highly recommend visiting it at night to see the show. Check online for up to date schedule information(Here).
#18 Flamingo Dance show
Although this was on our list, we didn’t have enough time to see a show. But i really wish I had gotten to see one.
#19 Eat Paella or take a paella cooking course
When I travel one of my favorite things to do is to take cooking classes. Once again We ran out of time and weren’t able to take a class however it did look very fun and delicious. You can reserve a sport (here). I did however enjoy lots of delicious paella which was nothing like the ones I’ve tried before. Simply delicious.
#20 Go Cafe Hunting
I love visiting cafes when I travel and Barcelona was filled with them! Make sure you get a croissant with your coffee and read the newspaper outside of a cafe, just for the feels.
