Trendy Instagram-Worthy Coffee Shop: CANVAS TOKYO
After hearing quiet a bit about this a cute coffee shop called CANVAS TOKYO which opened up in October 2015, I decided to give it a peek. It’s located near Hiroo Station, a stylish, calm area of Tokyo with many cute restaurants and Coffee shops.
CANVAS TOKYO is an open concept shop. You can order from the outside or inside. If you chose inside, there is a narrow seating area on the 2nd floor. I recommend taking a peek before ordering your coffee because this place can get pretty busy. CANVAS sells a variety of drinks in collection with some well known food brands: Mark Espresso, nico donuts and Ramey Circus. This location is super stylish and laid back. It’s the perfect place to rest after shopping around Hiroo with its calming white washed atmosphere.
THE GRUB
Also, because they offer such healthy options you can indulge without feeling so guilty. As I have noted, they have many options and, are even said to do customized latte art if it’s not too busy. I really wanted a coffee because it was so cold but I just had to see what this creamy, pink Strawberry soybean smoothie was all about. And for $7.00 it better be something. One of the biggest reasons I decided to come was not only the atmosphere but the donuts! Who doesn’t love donuts? However, they are a bit too sweet for me and I often get sick if I eat them. Coupled with, the calories OMG.
Anyways, CANVAS sells nico donuts, a healthy multi-grained donuts that uses soybean paste. My thoughts were “This has gotta taste like dry chalk”, but to my surprise, It was so good! The taste is on the lighter side, not so sugar and heavy but still really delicious. The donut had the perfect amount of sweetness. The bread had a more dense, cake like texture unlike a light airy traditional donut. They have various donut flavors and since Valentines Day was around they corner, I chose the best themed donuts.
Both were so cute, I felt like the drink and donut choice was an outfit, I can’t wait to try on new flavas! That was corny. Make sure you pick up a point card if you plan on coming back. They offer 1 stamp for ever 300 Yen you spend. If you get 30 stamps you gain access to the 2nd floor during special times, such as when they have an art gallery or during special lunch time hours. I heard on some Friday nights the 2nd floor turns into an art gallery/Bar for the VIP members.
In November 2017 CANVAS TOKYO opened up a franchise in Daikanyama, another trendy, stylish, calmer area of Tokyo know for it’s shops and restaurants. The franchise is called “ink by CANVAS TOKYO. It’s a bit different and mainly focuses on colorful lattes which are also super Instagram worthy. Looks like I have another coffee shop to check out.
